Unifi - Windows 8 - manual

The following describes the process for manually configuring Windows 8 for Unifi in the event that regular setup process fails

Configuration


Step one

Open File Explorer by moving your mouse to the top right hand corner of screen and selecting Search from the menu that appears.

In Search select ‘Settings’ and type ‘Network and Sharing Center’.

Open the ‘Network and Sharing Center’.

Step two

From the Network and Sharing Center select “Set up a new connection or network”.

Step three

When prompted to Choose a connection option, select ‘Manually connect to a wireless network’ and then click ‘Next’.

Step four

Enter the following settings:

  • Network name: ‘Unifi’
  • Security Type: ‘WPA2-Enterprise’

Step 4 - Windows 8 Manual Unifi Setup

Click ‘Next’.

Step five

After successfully adding Unifi select ‘Change connection settings’.

Step six

In the Unifi Wireless Network Properties select the ‘Security’ tab.

Step seven

Where prompted for a network authentication method select ‘Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)’.

Click ‘Settings’.

Step eight

Un-check the ‘Verify the server’s identity by validating the certificate’ box.

Click ‘Configure…’

Uncheck the Automatically use my Windows credentials box.

Click ‘OK’ and then ‘OK’ again.

Step nine

In the Security tab (pictured in step six) click ‘Advanced Settings’.

In Advanced settings, check the ‘Specify authentication mode’ box and choose ‘User authentication’ from the drop down.

Click ‘OK’ and then ‘OK’ again.

Step ten

From the System Tray in the lower right corner of your screen, click on the wireless network icon pictured below.

Select this icon to open the list of available wireless networks in range of the device.

NOTE: If there is no network icon in the system tray, it may be hidden within the 'less frequently used items' area, which can be expanded by selecting the 'up-arrow', typically on the left-most edge of the system tray.

Step eleven

From the list of available networks, select ‘Unifi’ and press the ‘Connect’ button that appears after selecting it.

Step twelve

The connection process will begin and you should be prompted to enter user credentials at the prompt:

  • The ‘username’ is your UWA Person ID (e.g. 12345678).
  • The ‘password’ is your associated Pheme password.

Once your have entered your credentials, please press ‘OK’.

Step thirteen

The following prompt will appear:

This is normal. Simply press ‘Connect’ to proceed.

You are done!

After a few seconds you should be notified that the connection was established successfully as pictured.

Step 14 - Windows 8 Manual Unifi Setup

You should now have Internet access.
